I'm Kevin, the owner of WKW Architect PC.

I am a registered architect, certified interior designer, furniture designer and educator with over 25+ years in the architecture, art and design field. I have collected a diverse range of professional experiences, achievements and skills which has helped me design my own simple, but creative architecture and design firm.

My business model is simple: 


I provide professional design services for creative minded commercial interior architecture and residential clients to help translate their ideas for new business environments, home renovations, additions, or custom millwork into professionally crafted design packages for review.


Each schematic design package provides the client a method of working with me to explore design ideas on a professional level with professional plans and graphics to communication with contractors for schematic pricing and compatibility. This first step helps refine design details and construction cost before the start of formal documentation and finish materials selection. My typical projects range from retreat homes and home renovations, to commercial, retail and corporate design to millwork and object design.  


If the design development work proceeds to construction and permit drawings, wKw Architects are happy to continue the development and management with a formal contract as Architect of Record with a consortium partnership with a certified interior designer and senior technical and quality control manager.


Both commerical and residential work under contract must be performed by reputable class A contractors.


If the client wishes to use their development package to pursue the design concept work on their own or with a contractor, they are welcome to secure other architectural services and consultants as needed for the completion of any required county permits.  

I am also the co-owner and inventor of the patent officially referred to as Architectural Structure Having an Expandable Frame # 10273676, also known as the Coyote Smart Rapid Install building system. Patent and legal support for the Coyote Smart system is generously provided through a limited partnership with Marywood University. 


A limited range of fabrication for any design and artwork found within this website are available for purchase or for commission of limited production through my own fabrication resources.

My work has been described as playfully serious and relates to my own sense of wonderment, exploration and experiences. I approach each design problem as a game, and that is what challenges me,...the search for the best solution to a design problem that also conveys a sense of order and wonderment for anyone who appreciates design craft. 

I have been attracted to quality design and spaces all my life and I have never wanted any other career...except maybe a teacher.


I live in Fairfax Virginia with my wife Sandy, 3 kids, Roxxy the dog and my own ideas for things and spaces that do not exist yet.

Fee Schedule 

Hourly design development and production rate is $150 per hr.

Schematic design and bid package hours typically range from $1,000 for small commissions to $5,000 + for larger projects depending on the complexity and total hours needed for development as, well as access to existing plans and documents. The schematic designs are used to flush out the majority of the design decisions and are used to invite prospective contractors for rough estimates, schedules and compatibility. These services are provided under simple written understanding of the scope of work needed through email and invoiced upon completion of schematic design.  I can forward a PDF example of a schematic bid document upon request. 

Formal bid documents, construction documents, permit sets and project management services typically range between 10% to 12% of the total construction costs which is billed at the hourly rate and invoiced monthly. These require a formal contract with a retainer depending on the complexity of the project, experience of the selected contractor, and project schedule.
